Dubai Post 17: The Burj Khalifa, the Tallest Building on the Planet
The Burj Khalifa is most magnificent at night. |
The most recognizable structure in Dubai’s skyline is the
Burj Khalifa. At, 828 meters (2,716 feet
or half a mile!), it is an astonishing engineering feat passing all the records
for the tallest building, freestanding structure and highest occupied floor. It is a majestic piece of innovation that can
be seen from miles and miles outside of Dubai.
Within the Burj Khalifa are office buildings, apartments, an
outdoor observation deck, club, restaurant and a lounge. My Dad and I planned a visit to the lounge which
is what my next post will be about. It
is located right next to the Dubai Mall and only a mile or two from my office
building, thus giving some of my co-workers incredible views of the entire structure.
Unlike its rivals in the States, the Burj Khalifa is an
indescribable appeal as you approach it at night. The Empire State Building and Willis Tower are
marvelous buildings, but do not have the allure of the Burj after sunset. Personally, I think this has to do with the
lighting and structure since your eyes are forced up terrace after terrace to the
very top. The Burk Khalifa is truly a
modern marvel and an up close and personal visit is a must do for any traveler
to Dubai.
The Burj Khalifa is a must see for any Dubai visitor. |
Although the building appears to be a slender needle, the base is quite large. |
